What It Is

A signal, not a sensation.

A coil generates a magnetic field that pulses at a set frequency and intensity. That field passes through tissue without generating heat and without needing contact with the skin. You lie on the mat, fully clothed, and the field does the rest.

PEMF is a biophysical treatment first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1979. It is used clinically for fracture non-unions and bone defects, where reviews describe it as safe and efficacious. That is a considerably stronger starting position than most wellness modalities occupy.

Deepest for bone. Proportionate everywhere else.

PEMF carries something few wellness technologies do: regulatory approval dating to 1979 and a mechanism traced to named receptors. Worth carrying as you read, though, is that the strongest evidence concerns bone healing and fracture non-unions, generally at clinical parameters for a specific indication. For pain, function, and general recovery the reviews are more measured, and for general wellness use thinner again. That gradient is real, and we would rather you saw it than assumed the bone evidence transfers wholesale.

Will I feel anything?

Most people feel nothing at all. Some report a faint pulsing or tingling sensation at higher intensities. The absence of sensation is not the absence of effect, and we would be cautious of judging the session by how it felt.

Can I use it with a pacemaker?

No. PEMF is not appropriate for anyone with a pacemaker, defibrillator, cochlear implant, insulin pump, or other implanted electronic device. This is one of the clearest contraindications among the services we offer, and it is why we ask before you book rather than on arrival.

Is this the same as the mat I could buy online?

Not necessarily. Frequency, intensity, and waveform vary enormously between devices, and the research is parameter specific. A consumer device may deliver something quite different from what a given study examined. If you already own one, bring the specifications and we will tell you honestly how it compares.

Is it actually FDA approved?

PEMF was first approved by the FDA in 1979, for bone healing indications specifically. That is genuine regulatory history. It does not mean every use of PEMF carries that approval, and we will not imply that it does.

How is this different from the BioCharger?

This is a dedicated therapeutic dose delivered through a mat with set parameters. The BioCharger delivers an electromagnetic component as one of four inputs at lower intensity as an ambient field. They complement each other, and if you want the stronger dose, this is the session.

Does it help with pain?

Reviews describe PEMF as a safe adjunct for reducing pain and improving function, particularly in osteoarthritis, while noting that disease modifying effects remain unproven. Adjunct is the operative word. It sits alongside proper care rather than replacing it.

How often should I use it?

Where prescribed, typically two to four times a week. It is passive enough to include regularly, and consistency matters more than any single session.

Is it safe?

It is non invasive, non thermal, and well tolerated, with decades of clinical use behind it. The exceptions matter though. Implanted electronic devices, pregnancy, active bleeding, and certain conditions are contraindications, which is what screening exists to identify.
